Dealing With Toddlers: Why It Is Easier Said Than Done

When a wife or husband becomes a "mommy" or a "daddy," they do not exactly know what to do with their baby and so they tend to do mistakes as a new parent. When it comes to dealing with toddlers, there are a few mistakes that a parent needs to avoid.

The first mistake parents make is that they start being inconsistent, which means they do not have a plan and a routine for their children. Having a routine for a child is very important as it helps them understand the worth of time.

Another mistake is when parents provide too much help to their child. Whenever a child is having trouble doing something parents jump in, offering a lending hand, which most often than not, isn't required. According to the Web MD, author Betsy Brown Braun says, "Parents who offer too much help may be sabotaging their young children's ability to become self-reliant"

Parenting also added the common mistake that parents do is when they start breaking their own rules set for their children. Parents are like guides for a child. What parents do is mimicked by the child. Breaking the rules results in the child to do the same. Once this begins, it's an endless loop of misbehavior and a subsequent series of punishments.

Furthermore, parents should never allow their children to spend a lot of time on screen. Recent studies have proven that kids who are around two years old are not capable to accept and understand what is shown on the television or on the computer screen. Parenting a toddler may seem easier said than done. Since a child is in the learning stage, it becomes highly hectic for a parent to set the guidelines for a child to conform to.
