'The Good Fight' Season 1 Air Date & Cast News: Alicia Florrick Returning To 'The Good Wife' Sequel? Get The Details [Roundup]

"The Good Wife" sequel has been given its official name. "The Good Fight" will have Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) as the principal character.

But will "The Good Wife" lead character Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) come aboard the "The Good Fight," perhaps even for a guest spot? Here's what's coming up so far in the sequel that will be launched on CBS All Access in February 2017.

Diane Lockhart will begin "The Good Fight" with the character going broke. One year after Diane gets slapped by Alicia Florrick in "The Good Wife," the ace lawyer will be trying to rebuild her name and reputation in the industry.

"The Good Fight" will work around the premise that Diane Lockhart will have to join Lucca Quinn's (Cush Jumbo) law firm in Chicago. "An enormous financial scam has destroyed the reputation of a young lawyer, Maia, while simultaneously wiping out her mentor Diane Lockhart's savings," the CBS press release states.

"The Good Fight" will bring in new characters like Maia (Rose Leslie), Diane's goddaughter and Robert Boseman (Delroy Lindo), the head of the new firm Diane competes against. Bernadette Peters and Paul Guilfoyle have also been cast as Lenore and Henry, Maia's mom and dad on "The Good Fight." Both are characterized as financial experts who run an investment firm, Deadline reports.

"The Good Fight" showrunners Robert and Michelle King have said in an interview with TV Line that Alicia Florrick might be in the show. That was back in June, when plans for "The Good Wife" spinoff was still being developed.

Meanwhile, Julianna Margulies said that she's excited for "The Good Fight" and has no ill-feelings about not being picked to headline the sequel. "It was time to hang up those high heels," she told New York Daily News, adding that she's looking forward to working on another show that's not on network television.

"The Good Fight" will premiere on CBS All Access in February 2017 with 10 episodes only. It's a departure from the usual 22 episodes that "The Good Wife" has delivered in each of its seven seasons. Check back to this site for more news and updates about the show.
