‘Empire’ Season 3 Cancellation: Hip-Hop Drama Struggles To Return From Hiatus, Casts Rumer Willis To Stir Some Trouble

"Empire" Season 3 has just returned with all-new episode after not airing since the last episode on Oct. 12. However, its absence made it hard for the hip-hop drama to gain back its viewers. Meanwhile, Rumer Willis has just been confirmed to join the show's cast. Will she be able to attract the audience back?

"Empire" Season 3 took some time off to give way to baseball coverage. According to Deadline, the "Empire" episode last week recorded a series-low rating of 2.9 live plus same-day among adults 18-49 and 8.1 million viewers.

Nonetheless, "Empire" Season 3 Nov. 10 Episode still topped other programs on the same timeslot. "Modern Family" got 2.3, "Criminal Minds" and "Law & Order: SVU" both rated 1.3, and "Frequency" received 0.3.

With that, it can be considered as just a bump for the "Empire" after being gone for a month. The analysis of the TV By The Numbers by zap2it.com shows "Empire" surely to be renewed for a fourth season by May 2017.

In other news, "Dancing With The Stars" alum Rumer Willis has been cast for a recurring role as Tory Ash. The character is described as "a brilliant but volatile singer/songwriter whose talent becomes invaluable to Jamal (Jussie Smollett) as he creates his most important musical work yet," per Deadline. Rumer Willis role is set bring some trouble to the "Empire" because of her attempt for a crossover comeback and being involved in controversies.

Rumer Willis, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's daughter, joins the list of notable stars in "Empire" Season 3, which includes Mariah Carey, Taye Diggs, Birdman and French Montana. The singer and dancer will also be seen in indie films "Hello Again" and "What Lies Ahead."

"Empire" Season 3 airs every Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. on FOX.
