Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’ News & Updates: Benedict Cumberbatch-Starrer Surpasses $600 Million Mark; To Exceed "Thor" Movie Gross

It has been 5 weeks since Marvel's "Doctor Strange" first opened. Since then, it has grossed $600 million worldwide. Domestically, Marvel's "Doctor Strange" has also reached the $205 million mark, which is more than the grosses of "The Incredible Hulk," "Thor," "Captain America: The First Avenger," and "Ant-Man."

Flickering Myth reports that Marvel's "Doctor Strange" is expected to pass "Thor: The Dark World" which grossed 206.5 million in North America. It should be passing "Thor: The Dark World" soon. It grossed an additional $9.8 million in worldwide receipts during the last weekend including a $1 million start in Argentina, plus another $13.4 million in domestic gross over the three-day weekend. Marvel's "Doctor Strange" is still to be shown in Japan starting on Jan. 27, which has traditionally been a big market for action films.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Marvel's "Doctor Strange" is about Doctor Stephen Strange, a highly paid surgeon who loses his practice after a car accident. After turning to all the possible techniques, including experimental ones, he still does not have the hand functionality to perform the microsurgery he is used to doing. Marvel's "Doctor Strange" then turns to the mystic arts and he ends up being taught by the Sorcerer Supreme.

Considering that the Marvel character is not that well known, it was a pleasant surprise that the movie was widely received. Although critics gave it good grades, geeks who have been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as the Marvel comics have given it a divided reception. In terms of gross, Marvel's "Doctor Strange" is the most successful single-character Marvel movie.

According to Cinema Blend, Marvel's "Doctor Strange" is the second in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 3. The first movie was "Captain America: Civil War." The third picture would be "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and then "Spider-Man: Homecoming."

Marvel's "Doctor Strange" ending credits clip showed Strange talking to Thor about finding Odin. This may mean that Strange would be back in "Thor: Ragnarok."
