‘The Crown’ Now Being Called ‘Netflix's Crowning Glory’; Did Queen Elizabeth II Watch It?

Netflix's new original series, "The Crown," continues to receive rave reviews from critics and audiences. It has now been called "the crowning glory" of Netflix, a streaming provider, which forked over $100 million to produce this ambitious series.

"The Crown" is a royal drama and is said to be a historically accurate portrayal of the life of Queen Elizabeth II as a young queen. The Independent, an Irish website, calls "The Crown" a savior from television tedium. The report lauds the acing of Claire Foy, who plays Queen Elizabeth II, for her subdued portrayal of such a high-profile character. Matt Smith, more known for his role as "Dr. Who" in the British series, plays Prince Philip, the Queen's husband and consort.

The Crimson reports that Netflix's "The Crown" paints a clear picture of the British Monarchy's responsibilities and the sacrifices she has to make. The 10-episode series portrays "The Crown" as a huge responsibility resting atop a young woman's head. The young Queen has to recover from the loss of her father and tend to a failing marriage as well. "The Crown" also tackles betrayals, scandals, and members of the royal family who bend and break the rules in order to get what they want.

"The Crown" was created and directed by Peter Morgan, who also wrote the 2006 film entitled "The Queen." He is a master storyteller with particular interest in historical characters such as Queen Elizabeth II.

There have been rumors that reigning British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II herself, watched the series and did not receive it well. However, Gossip Cop clarified that the Queen was not "petrified" over "The Crown" TV series. It was earlier reported that the royal family was alarmed that more secrets would be revealed in the next episodes.

"The Crown" has been renewed for a second season, which is scheduled to air in November 2017. Foy and Smith have already begun rehearsing for the next 10 episodes. So far, "The Crown" is set to run for at least five seasons. Given its strong following worldwide, it is not surprising if "The Crown" is extended beyond that.
