Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien: Covenant’ Getting A VR Experience

"Assassin's Creed" is not the only big-budget Hollywood film getting a matching VR experience. Ridley Scott's "Alien" franchise it getting one too, complementing the upcoming movie release this year.

"Alien: Covenant" is the much-awaited sequel to "Prometheus" and the prequel to the 1979 British-American sci-fi horror film "Alien." Ridley Scott's, the film's director, RSA Films will be working with Fox Innovation Lab for the VR experience of "Alien: Covenant." The iconic director will be the executive producer of the VR game, according to IGN.

To those unfamiliar with Fox Innovation Lab, it is Twentieth Century Fox's in-house VR research and development arm. They are behind "The Martian VR Experience" last year, which was unveiled at CES, and they also sponsored MIT's VR Hackathon experience.

Fox Innovation Lab described "Alien: Covenant" VR experience as "dread-inducing journey into the depths of the Alien universe." Hopefully, gamers won't here themselves scream during the experience.

Meanwhile, David Karlak, the visual effects director famously known for "The Collection" (2012), "The Collector" (2009), and "The Feast" (2005), is said to direct "Alien: Covenant" VR experience. Lastly, MPC VR, a Technicolor company, is also onboard the team behind the VR experience for the film.

Variety reported that "Alien: Covenant" VR experience will be a paid title available on all major VR platforms. However, although the project will be released this year given that the film is due May 2017, the official launch date for the VR experience has not yet been officially divulged.

Little information about the game is known, although it will be more of a life and death situation based on decisions made by players based on the report from IGN. This will be the second Ridley Scott film turned into a VR experience. "Alien Isolation" only made it as a prototype, which was available on Oculus Rift.

"Alien: Covenant" hits theaters on May 19 wherein viewers get to see the colony ship Covenant and its members meet David (played by Michael Fassbender), the Prometheus expedition survivor, and discover the once-thought uncharted paradise is instead a dangerous world filled with hostile alien life form.
