Using Oven Wrong: 20-Year-Old Man Refused Mom's Help

A 20-year-old man has been using his oven wrong after he refused the help of his mom. On Thursday, Twitter user "Henpecked Hal" shared the funny exchange of messages his 20-year-old cousin that garnered hundreds of thousands of likes and retweets.

The man started asking his cousin, Hal, how often one should clean an oven. Hal answered that users usually rarely clean the oven. Depending on usage, it is recommended that for every three to six months, you should clean your oven.

Clueless what a baking sheet is

Hal texted his cousin back confirming whether he was asking about the baking sheet or the actual oven. His cousin replied that his oven has metal grills on the inside. Apparently, the man was clueless as to what a baking sheet is and how to use it.

As it turned out, the 20-year-old had turned down cooking lessons from his mom before he lived on his own. He had been placing meat he cooks directly on the oven racks to "grill" them.

Hal's post went viral, and it did not only garner hundreds of thousands of likes but a ton of retweets too. Hundreds of commentators also shared their own silly cooking mistakes.

Started cooking to save money

Hal explained to "TODAY" that his cousin was a "fast food connoisseur" and that he had only started cooking for himself recently. He said that it was because his cousin had wanted to save money after having to pay for his bills for the first time.

Hal noted that his cousin's mom had offered to give him cooking lessons. However, like most 20-year-olds, his cousin refused to accept the offer and told his mom that "that is what the internet is for." Hal said that it was obvious that his cousin did not research on how to use his oven, but instead relied on his "keen culinary instinct."

Now his cousin knows how to use to oven correctly

The Twitter user had described his cousin's oven as looking "like a crime scene" without sharing any photo. Thankfully, his cousin now uses oven-safe dishes and baking sheets that prevent him from cleaning his oven every single time.

Hal said that while his cousin was embarrassed with his error, he found humor in the situation. He believes that what relieved his cousin was that he did not have to clean the oven that night.

Hal's cousin declined to talk to "TODAY" about his cooking experience, but he shared that he would be seeking the help of pros before he attempts to cook another dish. He sent a text message to Hal saying that he will talk to his mom for an hour and will be heading there for a cooking class during the weekend.
