Southern California parents were arrested by authorities after their two-year-old toddler was found walking barefoot and alone on railroad tracks in Needles.
Officials with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department reported that around 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, it responded to a report of a child at L and Broadway streets. Authorities later discovered the toddler alone, with no shoes, and walking along the track.
California Parents Arrested
A release from the Sheriff's Department Colorado River station noted that authorities said the child's parents were identified as 48-year-old Bradley Underwood and 30-year-old Sara Estrada. The couple arrived at the scene shortly after as the railroad runs alongside the family's neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The parents in the case were subsequently arrested by authorities and charged with child abuse. In an official investigation, officials questioned the couple, noting that they both displayed symptoms of being under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant.
A search warrant was later issued at the house of the family in Needles, which is where authorities discovered additional evidence regarding the case. So far, it is unclear where the additional evidence was located.
Official documents noted that Underwood was arrested on charges of child abuse and violation of post-release community supervision. Authorities revealed he is still in custody with no bail. On the other hand, Estrada was arrested for child abuse and remains in custody with bail set at $50,000, FoxLA reported.
Child Walking on Railroad Tracks
After authorities discovered the two-year-old child walking barefoot on the railroad tracks, they transferred the toddler to the Colorado River Station. That was where Child Protective Services took the girl into their care. However, officials did not reveal the condition of the child.
A separate incident occurred earlier this month when a couple left their 10-year-old son alone at the airport to catch their vacation flight. Guardia Civil, Spain's national police, said that the incident took place at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport.
Authorities said that the young boy was not allowed to board the flight his family was supposed to be on because of issues with his documentation. His parents decided to call a relative to pick up their son as they, along with a younger child, went on their flight.
After the Guardia Civil found the 10-year-old boy, they immediately grounded the flight his parents were on, found them, and escorted them to a Mossos d'Esquadra station, as per USA Today.
