Trimming Spare Belly Fat: Canola Oil May Burn Belly Fat

Want to have a flat belly? Include canola oil in a diet as according to the latest research, making it part of a diet might help burn additional belly fat.

"As a general rule, you can't target weight loss to specific body regions," Penn State News quoted Penny M. Kris-Etherton, Nutrition professor at Penn State as saying. "But monounsaturated fatty acids (found in canola oil) seem to target abdominal fat specifically," he emphasized.

Researchers discovered that participants who followed diets with canola oil included had reduced 11 kilograms abdominal fat than they did before following the diets. They also found that the burned fats were not redistributed anywhere the body.

For the research, five different vegetable oils blended by the researchers into the diets of 101 participants through a controlled research. The vegetable oils were conventional canola, canola oil high in oleic acid or CanolaOleic, canola high in oleic acid with DHA or CanolaDHA, flax/safflower, and corn/safflower.

Participants were assigned randomly to follow diets each treated with oils for four weeks. Every diet period was four weeks which was followed by a four-week break.

Before the joining the research, all participants had excess waist circumference, abdominal obesity and either had or at risk for metabolic syndrome like obesity, high blood pressure, low HDL, increased fats in the waist. However, after four weeks of following the diets with canola oil or CanolaOleic, they lost belly fat.

All participants shed 11 kilograms belly fat after a month of sticking to the foods which included with canola oil. Kris-Etherton said in a statement released in EurekAlert that monounsaturated fats in canola oil decrease the abdominal or visceral fats which have adverse health effects.

So don't go wrong including canola oils in the diet. Put it on salads or include it when baking, when sautéing foods, or in smoothies.
