MacBook Users Switching to Microsoft Surface: Disappointed With Apple’s Laptop?

Tech giants Apple and Microsoft recently launched new laptops to update the current model year. But months after, it would seem that Microsoft is getting the bigger share of the pie, sales wise.

According to statements released by Microsoft in a report by MacWorld, a lot of Macbook users are making the switch to Microsoft's Surface platform-based machines. With Microsoft's trade-in offer to Apple users at an all time high, Microsoft can only guess that disappointment over the recent MacBook offering is to blame for the switch.

The 2016 Macbook Pro received plenty of criticism for Apple's "unorthodox" design decisions. That and a more attractive trade-in program targeted at Macbook owners.

"Our trade-in program for MacBooks was our best ever, and the combination of excitement for the innovation of Surface, coupled with the disappointment of the new MacBook Pro - especially among professionals - is leading more and more people to make the switch to Surface," Microsoft said in a blog post.

"It seems like a new review recommending Surface over MacBook comes out daily. This makes our team so proud because it means we're doing good work."

According to tech site 9to5Mac, Microsoft was putting out a better trade-in offer for MacBook Pro and Air users willing to make the switch. Depending on the MacBook model they were trading, a customer can get up to $650 to put toward a Surface Book or Surface Pro 4 from Oct. 27 to Nov. 23.

Although sales figures for MacBook vs. Surface has not yet been released for the holiday quarts, Microsoft reported that November was their best month as Surface sales with high, while Apple rebutted with MacBook Pro preorders that were higher compared with past Pro Apple units.

Regardless, a little bit of competition benefits all end-users and won't be so bad for both companies. If this is really true that Microsoft is benefitting from Apples' "disappointing" MacBook design, then the Cupertino-based tech giant has to step up its game and get their customers back.
