'Overwatch' News & Updates: Blizzard’s 'Winter Wonderland' Brings 'Mei’s Snowball Offensive,' 2.01 Patch Notes, & More!

"Overwatch" joins the festive season as "Winter Wonderland" update is finally live. This is a limited edition holiday event for Blizzard's game on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It is has a lot of surprises for players such as loot boxes filled with new skins, a new game mode, and many more.

Blizzard released the seasonal update for their team-based shooter game "Overwatch." "Winter Wonderland," according to Polygon, has more than 100 new cosmetic items players earn by unlocking winter loot boxes. Similar with previous "Overwatch" seasonal events, loot boxes will have random contents but Blizzard assured that players will get at least one Winter Wonderland item in each loot box.

A new game mode, aptly titled "Mei's Snowball Offensive," is also included in the "Overwatch: Winter Wonderland" special event. The game is a 6v6, single elimination wherein players fire snowballs at each other, per VentureBeat. It only needs one hit to remove an enemy. Missing a shot will leave a player susceptible to an attack. There are snow piles to reload, as well.

Meanwhile, additional patch notes, "Overwatch 2.01," are also included in the "Winter Wonderland" updates. In general, among the added patch notes are anew "Boop" unlockable voice line for Sombra, a new 1v1 Mastery Duel and 3v3 Elimination game modes from the Custom Game menu players can now choose from, and a "Stay as Team" feature, allowing players to remain grouped with their teammates even if the match has ended, as detailed by Express UK. Moreover, bug fixes for PS4 and PC have been part of "Overwatch: Winter Wonderland" updates.

"Overwatch: Winter Wonderland" is 3rd special event since the game launched last May. The previous special events focused on Summer Olympics and Halloween. The special event, "Winter Wonderland," is slated to run until Jan. 2, 2017.
